Search for ancestor(s) who had a title of nobility

 Many Quebecers, Canadians and Franco-Americans of old French ancestry

 descend from a noble or ennobled immigrant. 

 According to our estimates, 11 ennobled and 170 immigrants came to settle in the colony

 between 1636 and 1760 are at the origin of all the nobility of New France.

 To be considered a noble in New France, the individual must meet three conditions: be qualified and recognized

 “Sieur”, count or other, which shows that this individual is perceived and accepted as a noble by his milieu; live

 nobly, that is to say, not to exercise manual labor, to have a suitable abode, and to serve the king.

 In a majority of cases, the nobles serve through the administration, the judiciary or in combat.

 It is the males who have the title, the girls are of noble quality but can transmit to their own posterity only the quality

 of their husband and not that of their father.

The search for an ancestor who may have had a title of nobility involves a search for the "ancestor tree".

 All ancestors found will be listed, whether you have an ancestor with a nobility title or more than one or none.

 Aboriginal ancestors will also be indicated if you have any.

 It is sometimes very difficult to find information. For example, the marriage certificate may have disappeared,

never have existed (marriage in the style of the country, de facto spouses or natural or adopted children) or be incomplete.

Most of the time, secondary or tertiary proof can replace the missing or non-existent document.
